Adult Program

Current Program

Leadership Collierville has a eight-month adult program beginning with an Opening Retreat in September and ending with graduation in May. More details about the monthly programs are as follows:

Opening Retreat

A two-day retreat in September allows participants to become better acquainted with each other. This retreat promotes teamwork and delves into various individual leadership styles.

Community Day

Emphasizes “quality of life” factors in Collierville with extensive tours of the town including non-profit agencies, public and private facilities, cultural arts and the history of Collierville. In the spring, attend a performance at the Harrell Theatre.

Business & Economics Day

Provides an overview on how business is done in Collierville and the economics of the area. Meet with area businessmen and women and the Chamber of Commerce to discuss the environment of the local business community. Learn more about the industrial area and the recruitment of new businesses to the Town. Attend a Chamber of Commerce luncheon.

Public Safety Day

Provides an overview of local & county public services that are provided to keep our community safe. This day will involve an in depth look at the Fire and Police Departments. The class will also look at the measures that are taken to insure the safety of our citizens if a disaster occurs.

Government Day

Provides an overview of local, county and state government. This day involves interaction with elected officials from the local to the state level. Town administrators provide a greater understanding of the dynamics of town government and the inner workings of each department. Participants must attend a commission or board meeting and report back to the class. The descriptions and responsibilities of the various Town Commissions and Boards are inter-woven into many of the class days.

Education Day

Provides an overview of the public and private schools in Collierville. This day involves discussions with the Superintendent of Shelby County schools and/or members of the Shelby County Board of Education, local principals, private school administrators and the University of Memphis at Carrier Center. This day also includes tours of schools, panel discussions, and interaction with the Collierville
Education Foundation.

Altruism Day / Closing Retreat

Closing Retreat centers on reviewing the events of the class year, reflecting on lessons learned, and planning for future projects. Discover more ways to become a community leader.

Graduation

The program closes with a special graduation ceremony in May.

Selection of Class Participants

Leadership Collierville participants will be selected by a review committee on the basis of completed applications. Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to their potential for leadership, would contribute to the overall diversity and strength of the class and have available time to commit to the program and future community service.  The program is limited in number and participants must live or work in the Collierville area.

Requirements for Successful Participation

The program runs from October to May.  It is necessary for the following requirements to be met in order for a participant to graduate.  There are seven sessions, plus Graduation. Attendance at each of these sessions is mandatory.  Except in truly unavoidable situations, punctuality and maintaining presence for the entire session is required.  Where a personal or business crisis arises, the participant is required to make up any missed session according to any guidelines established by the Program Committee. Under no circumstances may a participant miss any portion of the Opening Retreat.  Failure to attend the entire Opening Retreat will make it impossible for a participant to continue in the program.

Tuition for Leadership Collierville is $750.  Applicants will be billed for the tuition upon their acceptance into the program. The tuition may be paid by the individual, employer, agency, organization or other source. Tuition may be paid in full, quarterly or monthly with first payment prior to first class session.
